If you have the fuel, simply burn retrograde at periapsis until you are in some kind of orbit. You can greatly reduce the amount of fuel required to achieve an orbit around Eve by aerobraking. Using a Delta-V deprived lander as an escape pod and using various tecnhiques to navigate and not-so-safely land on a life-supporting moon. I want to try to aerocapture the rescue craft, or at least use a bit of Eve's atmosphere to slow myself down and burn less fuel. I'm hoping to save around 200-400m/s 2 with aerobraking. Is that viable? L'Aerobraking, o aerocapture, (in italiano aerofrenaggio o aerocattura) è una tecnica finalizzata alla riduzione della velocità di un mezzo, una volta raggiunto un corpo celeste.

My miner could refuel the Eve station from Gilly. dense atmosphere, which makes aerobraking and returning two of the most dangerous activities in the game. Eve is easy to land on, but Duna is the easiest for a two-way trip. Aerobraking eve

Hey guys, I have a bit of a dilemma here. I recently attempted my latest interplanetary mission to Eve recently, but forgot Aerobraking is then used to circularize the orbit. If the atmosphere is thick enough, a single pass through it can be sufficient to slow a spacecraft as needed. However, aerobraking is typically done with many orbital passes through a higher altitude, and therefore thinner region of the atmosphere. Strange you should mention it. I did some aerobraking around Eve last night. This is a very dark picture of my lander probe before the first pass.

The Clarke maneuver is definitely aerocapture, not aerobraking. I suspect the Hienlein one too, but I have no copy of Space Cadet. Aerobraking is extremely challenging but worth it, say mission engineers, because it eliminates the need for the heavy load of extra propellant that would otherwise be needed to place the spacecraft in its desired orbit.

Depends on what final altitude you want, around 65 km should get you into orbit, don't go any lower then 50 km though or you may have to try  If I put a kerbal in EVA then there was no way to tell the second one to transfer. Anyway After the talk of eve aerobraking, I decided I'd do it. The EVE M3 proposal to ESA gives a blueprint for such a mission.

The actual periapsis had to be very precise since aerobraking can be sensitive to small differences in periapsis altitude. Hy, I am sending a high speed probe to Jool (1y100d of travel) and I am planning to use the stock inflatable aero shield to aerobrake on the orbit of the planet. Big question is the height that I aim to do that without exploding my ship or being dragged by the gas giant. The deorbit burn targeted one of the bigger landmasses of Eve, avoiding the large oceans, many of which appear to be huge meteorite craters.
